Wine making painting is a folk art painting of the whole process of wine making traditionally in rural Greece up until the early sixties.A gogeous, vintage, Greek folk art painting on salvaged wood with four separate pictures painted on the same piece of salvaged wood.
Each wine making phase is like a vignette, painted next to the other phase.
This is a gorgeous, Greek traditonal wine making, folk art painting. It's a vintage Greek folk art painting on a repurposed piece of old wood, made by Greek, folk artist, E. Kokori.
She is a self taught artist, who only used to paint on reclaimed pieces of wood, salvaged from old furniture usually. She made this traditonal, wine making painting in the early 2000, although she had started painting sometime in the early eighties. She has sometimes painted the same theme repeatedly, but on a new, different piece of wood and it never looked the same.
This folk art painting is two long pieces of salvaged wood, that the artist has cleaned and varnished for maintenance and then painted on.The painting is divided in four parts, one wine making phase each.
The first part depicts women cutting and collecting the grapes from the vines. They are wearing traditional white scarves on their heads to keep the sun away. These scarves used to cover all of the head, because a tan was not fashionable and Greek ladies wanted to look pale.
The second picture is men pressing grapes in a traditonal wooden tab. They are also holding bunches of grapes.THe juice of the frapes is running from two outlets at the ends /lower parts of the wooden tab into white containers. The third picture is a farmer in his traditonal, retro pick up truck, carrying his produce of grapes. He is in the truck vestibule with his peasant wife. The fourth picture is a traditonal, old Greek taverna scene of two patrons enjoying their wine from a wine serving copper jug of old. They are sitting at a table with a checqueredred white tablecloth.
The ambience of the old, taverna interior is with a wall completely covered in wooden wine cusks, from which the taverna owner served his customers.
The painting is painted on both pieces of wood. The different pictures on this horizontal piece of salvaged wood are divided by a painted, dark green frame. All of the painting edge is painted in this, bottle green colour.A smaller piece of wood was added up front in the lowest part of the painting as an extra, decorative touch. This part is also painted in dark green/olive green and also decorated with white flowers/leaves at the point of each phase with the next. The artst has painted her initials in the baker part piciture in the lower part.
At the back the wine making painting is painted black with a piece of wire fastened horizontally, so you can hang the folk painting on the wall.
This wooden, Greek painting of traditional, wine making measures about 50cm in length x 12cm in height x 3cm in width.
It is not heavy. It is a fascinating piece of folk art painting, that all will enjoy, collectors, art lovers or just your family and friends. It will be ideal for any rustic or bohemian interior and so very cool for a taverna, or restaurant.
